Debate over diagnosis criteria for anorexia is ridiculous. The APA clearly states that being medically underweight is a requirement for diagnosis. Stating that fact isn’t being judgmental, isn’t being elitist, isn’t saying that you aren’t SICK if you aren’t underweight. People need to understand that the emotional and mental symptoms of EDNOS are just as severe as that of anorexia or bulimia. And it’s pretty damn sad that a 17.5 BMI is something to strive for in order to have a “real problem.”
Also.
“You’re too fat to be anorexic” => Your weight meets the minimum criteria for what is considered healthy.
NO ONE who knows anything about the disordered mindset would fucking TELL SOMEONE that they’re “too fat to be anorexic” but literally all that means is that they have a BMI of over 17.5. Which is still extremely, extremely thin. Anorexic is not synonymous with skinny.
